2009 Phil F. Duffy Scholarship Program
(posted February 25, 2009)
On Friday, February 27, 2009, the Phil F. Duffy Scholarship Program, which is sponsored by the Father Richard Doheny Religious Education Fund and managed by the Fair Oaks Council #6066 Knights of Columbus, officially begins. Applications and instructions will be distributed in the classroom. Extra copies will be available in both the St Mel School and CCD Offices.
There will be two scholarship awards given to students entering the ninth grade at a Catholic high school in the fall of 2009. To be eligible, you must be a member of St. Mel’s parish or your father must be a member in good standing with the Fair Oaks Council #6066 of the Knights of Columbus.
Both awards are based on the student’s involvement in parish and religious activities, community service and academic excellence; however one of the awards will also consider financial need.
I would emphasize that although academic excellence is an important critereon used to judge the winners, it is not the sole governing factor. The extents of parish and religious activities as well as community service involvement have a significant impact on the final result.
The awards will be paid directly to each scholarship recipient’s choice of a Catholic high school on behalf of the recipient to help offset some of the student’s educational costs. In the event the scholarship recipient does not attend the ninth grade at a Catholic high school, the funds will be returned to the scholarship fund. You must enclose a copy of your acceptance letter from the Catholic high school along with your completed application form.
Please follow all instructions on the application. If you wish financial aid to be considered as part of your application, a parent or guardian must complete the financial aid form and include it in a sealed envelope with your application. This information will be held in utmost confidence.
All applications must be mailed to:
Phil F. Duffy Scholarship Program
C/O Scott Millward
7056 Ludlow Drive
Roseville, CA 95747
The application must have a postmark date of April 3, 2009 or earlier. Late applications will be disqualified.
