Youth Activities

The Knights of Columbus are dedicated to upholding Catholic and Christian values in society. And an important part of that mission involves sponsoring youth activities which help provide positive guidance to the Catholic leaders of tomorrow.

Among the various youth activities spearheaded by K of C Council 6066 are:

2008 Phil F Duffy / Father Richard Doheny Scholarship Program
(Posted March 11, 2008)

On Thursday, March 13, 2008, the Phil F. Duffy/Father Richard Doheny Scholarship Program officially begins. Applications and instructions will be distributed in the classroom. Extras will be made available in both the St Mel School and CCD Offices.

The Knights of Columbus Fair Oaks Council #6066 is offering two scholarships to students entering the ninth grade at a Catholic high school in the fall of 2008.

To be eligible, you must be a member of St. Mel’s parish or your father must be a member in good standing of Fair Oaks Council #6066 of the Knights of Columbus.

One scholarship will be awarded based on the student’s involvement in parish and religious activities, community service and academic excellence. The second scholarship will be awarded based on the student’s parish and religious involvement, community service, academic excellence and financial need.

Although academic excellence is part of what is used to judge the winners of these scholarships, that is not the sole governing factor. The extent of parish and religious activities as well as community service involvement are important factors and have a significant impact on the final result.

The funds will be paid to each scholarship recipient’s choice of a Catholic high school on behalf of the recipient to help offset some of the student’s educational costs. In the event the scholarship recipient does not attend the ninth grade at a Catholic high school, the funds will be returned to the scholarship fund. You must enclose a copy of your acceptance letter from the Catholic high school along with your completed application form.

Please follow all instructions on the application. All applications must be submitted on the attached application form (previous year’s forms will not be accepted). If you wish financial aid to be considered as part of your application, your parent or guardian must complete the attached financial aid form and include it in a sealed envelope with your application. This information will be held in utmost confidence.

Please note: All applications must be mailed to the address listed in the instructions that will be distributed or picked up at the school or CCD office and have a postmark date of April 15, 2008 [Extended from April 8 due to Easter] or earlier. Late applications will be disqualified.
